Borah High School Band Conductor<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Under Jim’s tutelage, these groups won numerous awards in local and statewide competitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jim began his role as an active member of the Boise Music Week Board starting in 1970 and continuing to the present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jim was awarded Teacher of the Year by the Boise Education Association for the 1972-1973 school year and again for the 1977-1978 school year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jim played his French Horn in the Boise Philharmonic for 26 years in various positions starting as the First Horn part for 5 years and moving on to other positions such as Fourth Horn which he often preferred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On Christmas Morning in 1977, Jim was given the Distinguished Citizen Award by the Idaho Statesman in a full page ad shown below. John Collias, a well-known Boise artist at the time, created a charcoal sketch of Jim. It was featured in the Statesman along with a list of Jim’s contributions and accomplishments.<\/p>\n\n\n Jim retired from Borah High School in 1992 with 30 years of service and continued his contributions to the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2008, Jim served as President of Boise Music Week and was the Grand Marshall of the Boise Holiday Parade. In that era this was a huge parade and all the Boise High Schools and Junior High Schools participated, along with many local clubs and businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2010 Jim started the Dunkely’s Mulligan Band with a little more than 20 players and it has been growing and going strong ever since. In 2023, following a two-year hiatus due to Covid, the resumed with its previous complement of around 60 active musicians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On November 1, 2021 Jim was recognized by the New Horizons Music Association for his success in developing the Capital City Mulligan Band<\/p>\n\n\n On May 20, 2023 the Capital City Mulligan Band had a retirement celebration for Jim Perkins ahead of his final concert on June 4, 2023 at the Boise First Presbyterian Church.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Under Jim’s tutelage, these groups won numerous awards in local and statewide competitions.
